Professional Development
My Voice Professional Development offers three different tracks to help educators understand My Voice data more deeply and to develop and implement school improvement plans. Teams, comprised of single schools or multiple schools, can use these professional development packages before, during and after administering My Voice Surveys.

With the My Voice Introduction & Follow-Up package, trained My Voice consultants come to your school to introduce My Voice to your staff prior to survey administration. Once the survey is complete, the consultants return to your school to guide your My Voice team as they review and interpret the results; and as they begin to use those results to make school improvement plans.
The Introduction Workshop introduces your team to My Voice, including the Three Guiding Principles and 8 Conditions That Make A Difference. We recommend that the school identify a small group of teachers to serve as the My Voice team prior to this session. (Alternatively, teachers might opt to self-identify after participating in this session.) Attendees will leave this session with a thorough understanding of My Voice and how to administer the survey; and they will be able to articulate to their peers, students and parents the benefits of participating in the program.
The Introduction Workshop requires approximately three hours and can be included as part of a staff development meeting. It is recommended that this workshop take place two to three weeks prior to survey administration; although we recognize that schedules vary and will work with you to schedule the workshop at a time that is most beneficial to your community.
After the survey has been administered, My Voice consultants return to your school for the Follow-Up Workshop, where your results are distributed. The team will spend time working in detail with the first Condition, Belonging, covering each of the survey questions and analyzing your school’s data. Time will be spent planning for student, staff and parent focus groups so that your My Voice team can further analyze and understand the responses. My Voice consultants will then explain how to use that same process to analyze the results of the other seven Conditions, and they will work with your My Voice team to develop a timeline for using the results to create school improvement plans.
The Follow-Up Workshop requires approximately six hours and can be included as part of a staff development meeting. It is recommended that this workshop take place two to three weeks after survey administration; although we recognize that schedules vary and will work with you to schedule the workshop at a time that is most beneficial to your community.
With the My Voice Custom Professional Development package, trained My Voice consultants come to your school to introduce My Voice to your staff prior to survey administration. Once the survey is complete, the consultants return to your school for three separate Custom Workshops to guide your My Voice team as they review and interpret their results; and as they use those results to make school improvement plans.

Custom Workshop 1, delivered two to three weeks after the survey has been administered, walks your My Voice team through the first set of survey results, centered on the Guiding Principle of Self-Worth, and facilitates development of an associated action plan. During this workshop, the team will spend time focusing on the first three Conditions: Belonging, Heroes and Sense of Accomplishment.
Custom Workshop 2, delivered two to three months after Workshop 1, walks your My Voice team through the second set of survey results, centered on the Guiding Principle of Engagement. During this workshop, the team will spend time focusing on the outcome of the action plan created in Workshop 1, as well as on understanding and creating an action plan for the next set of Conditions: Fun & Excitement, Curiosity & Creativity and Spirit of Adventure.
Custom Workshop 3, delivered two to three months after Workshop 2, walks your My Voice team through the third set of survey results, centered on the Guiding Principle of Purpose. During this workshop, the team will spend time focusing on the outcome of the action plan created in Workshop 2, as well as on understanding and creating an action plan for the final two Conditions: Leadership & Responsibility and Confidence to Take Action. The My Voice consultants will also work with your team to create a plan to continue the program into the next school year.
In each Custom Workshop, time is spent planning for student, staff and parent focus groups, so that your My Voice team can further analyze and understand the responses. My Voice consultants will then work with your team to develop a timeline for using the results for each Condition to create school improvement action plans. Each Custom Workshop requires approximately six hours and can be included as part of a staff development meeting. It is recommended that the Custom Workshops be scheduled two to three months apart, thereby allowing time for your My Voice team to implement the improvement plans in a well-thought-out and realistic way.
The My Voice Regional Institute is an intensive eight-hour, hands-on training for your My Voice team. Regional Institutes can accommodate My Voice teams from up to 10 schools and are intended to build capacity within your school community to manage the My Voice program. It is recommended that your school’s My Voice team attend an Institute prior to survey administration.
At the Institute, your My Voice team will receive an in-depth introduction to My Voice, the Three Guiding Principles, and the 8 Conditions That Make A Difference. Attendees will be trained on how to administer the survey; and they will be able to articulate to their peers, to students and to parents the benefits of participating in the program.
Institute leaders will use a sample school’s survey results to walk through each of the 8 Conditions, explaining to your My Voice team how to interpret results; plan for student, staff and parent focus groups; and use results to create a timeline and implement a school improvement plan. Your My Voice team will then return to your school and administer the surveys; subsequently they will lead meetings where the results will be discussed and action plans will be created.
